Il-Karnival 2018 b’aktar avvenimenti li jsaħħu l-kultura inklussiva u l-parteċipazzjoni

Fuq il-passi tal-edizzjonijiet preċedenti, il-Karnival għall-2018 se jkompli jibni fuq is-suċċessi ta’ qabel b’żieda fid-diversità tal-attivitajiet kif ukoll b’żieda ta’ parteċipanti. Apparti minn hekk, l-edizzjoni ta’ din is-sena se tara żieda ta’ madwar 12 % fil-baġit allokat mill-edizzjoni ta’ qabel.
Il-Karnival tal-Belt għandu numru rekord ta’ parteċipanti taż-żfin din is-sena – se jipparteċipaw ‘il fuq minn 20 kumpanja kompetittiva, kif ukoll 15-il skola taż-żfin. Se jipparteċipaw kumpaniji taż-żfin minn Għawdex għall-ewwel darba wkoll. Il-Karnival se jibda ġimgħa qabel permezz ta’ sfilata bil-karrijiet, baned, maskaruni u kumpaniji taż-żfin fil-Kottonera – dawn huma ftit mill-avvenimenti li se jseħħu fl-edizzjoni ta’ din is-sena.

“Dan kollu juri kemm il-Karnival jinsab fl-aqwa tiegħu. Iċ-ċelebrazzjonjiet matul dawn l-aħħar snin komplew jiżdiedu mhux biss fil-Belt Valletta, fejn iċ-ċerimonja tal-ftuħ dis-sena se ssir il-Ħamis flok il-Ġimgħa iżda wkoll frixna ċ-ċelebrazzjonijiet fi bnadi oħra u mhux il-Belt biss,” stqarr il-Ministru għall-Ġustizzja, Kultura u Gvern Lokali Owen Bonnici. “L-għan prinċipali hu li nsaħħu l-interess fil-Karnival kemm mal-parteċipanti kif ukoll ma’ dawk l-eluf li jidħlu l-Belt jew iżuru rħula oħra biex igawdu din iċ-ċelebrazzjoni unika fid-dinja.”

Is-Segretarju Parlamentati għall-Protezzjoni tal-Konsumatur u Valletta 2018 Deo Debattista qal li “din is-sena il-Karnival se jkun partikolari ħafna għaliex se jkun l-ewwel festa Maltija li se tiġbed diversi nies lejn il-Belt li se ssir wara l-ftuħ uffiċjali ta’ Valletta 2018. Għalhekk se jkun Karnival li Kapitali Ewropea tal-Kultura jistħoqqilha,”
“Il-Karnival tul l-aħħar ħames snin beda jitqies bħala l-akbar avveniment f’Malta u għalhekk ma jistax jonqos li jkun hemm attivitajiet innovattivi li huma parti mill-Valletta2018. Se jsir ukoll Ballu Tritoni, ħdejn il-Funtana tat-Tritoni, bis-sehem ta’ DJs lokali u spettaklu mill-Big Band Brothers,” żied jgħid Jason Busuttil, id-Direttur Artistiku tal-Karnival.

 

Il-biċċa l-kbira tal-attivitajiet se jsiru l-Belt Valletta fi Pjazza San Ġorġ u jintemmu bil-Gran Finale l-Furjana. Dawn jinkludu sfilati b’karrijiet trijonfali u satiriċi, skejjel u kumpaniji taż-żfin, maskeruni u maskeruni iżolati kif ukoll parati tal-kostumi.  Se ssir edizzjoni tal-Qarċilla, bl-isem ‘L-Għarusa Karfusa’, li qed tittella’ għall-ewwel darba minn Teatru Malta. Attività oħra mtella’ minn Festivals Malta barra l-Belt hi Festa Baned li hi parata li se ssir għar-raba’ darba fil-Ħamrun.

 

Iċ-Ċentru tax-Xjenza Interattiva Esplora fil-Kalkara għal darb’oħra se jtella’ attivitajiet marbuta mal-Karnival bl-isem ‘Kuluri Karnival’. L-attivitajiet jinkludu taħdidiet dwar il-Karnival, spettakli tax-xjenza, kompetizzjonijiet għall-aħjar kostum u workshops interattivi.

Malta Carnival 2018 with events and  activities that aim to enhance and strenghten an inclusive culture.

 

Building up on the success of previous years, the 2018 edition of the Malta Carnival we have a number of firsts which range from the increase in the diversity of overall activities as well as a larger number of participants. Moreover, this year’s edition will see an increase of around 12% in the allocated budget from the previous edition.

 The Valletta Carnival has a record number of dance participants this year – more than 20 companies will be competing, and 15 dance school will be participating as well. For the first time, dance companies hailing from Gozo will be taking part this year. Carnival will start a week earlier this year with a parade of floats, bands, maskaruni and dance companies in Cottonera. These are some of the events happening in this year’s Carnival edition.

“All of this is a testament showing that the Malta Carnival is in its prime. The celebrations have been increasing throughout the past years not only in Valletta – where the opening ceremony will be held in Thursday instead of Friday this year round – but even in other locations,” stated Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici. “Our principal aim is to strengthen the interest shown in Carnival, not only amongst its participants but even amongst the thousands of attendants that visit and enjoy these unique celebrations.”

  Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Protection and Valletta 2018 Deo Debattista said that “This year’s Carnival will be a particular one as it is the first celebration that will bring different people to the Capital, and we will be celebrating under the European Capital of Culture title. This is why this Carnival will be one which a city with such a title deserves.”
“During the past five years, Carnival is being regarded as the biggest event in Malta and thus, this year’s celebration of Valletta 2018 brought with it innovative activities. There will be the Tritoni Ball, which will be held near the Triton Fountain, with the participation of local DJs and the Big Band Brothers,” added Jason Busuttil, the Carnival Artistic Director.

 

Most of the activities will be held in St George’s Square in Valletta, with a Grand Finale in Floriana. These include parades with floats, dance companies, maskeruni and costume parades. An edition of the Qarċilla, called ‘L-Għarusa Karfusa’ will take place for the first time by Teatru Malta. Another activity held by Festivals Malta will be Festa Baned, a parade held in Ħamrun.

 

Esplora Interactive Science Centre in Kalkara will once again be holding Carnival related activities by the name of ‘Kuluri Karnival’. The activities include discussions on Carnival, science shows, costume competitions and interactive workshops.

Rachael Blackburn, Director from Esplora and Vincent Fabri from the Valletta Local Council were also present for the press conference.
